Presidents
Our Presidents this year are Helen Kempson and Tom Lynch.
Helen is in the final year of her Drama degree. She has just returned from a year in
California and is eager to rekindle old friendships and meet new faces at the Cathsoc.
Helen loves her community performance projects which enable her to meet new people and
work in new environments. She’s looking forward to the Cathsoc being a place of
non-judgemental fun and peace.
Tom is in his final year as well, reading Religious Studies. He thinks that “the Cathsoc
is a great institution, but it is only as good as its members, so please come along! As
young Catholics we are the future of the Church, as such it is important that we grow in
our faith, in both a spiritual and social context — and that’s exactly what the Cathsoc
provides.”

Treasurer
This year’s Treasurer is Catherine Scandrett, called Cat by her friends.
Cat is currently in the final year of her PhD in Forensic Imaging and is really
enjoying it! Originally from the West Midlands, she completed a degree in Physics at
the University of Southampton before coming to Kent.
Cat’s interests include music, films and socialising. She is also a member of the Cathsoc
choir. Cat was one of our Presidents last year. She feels
honoured to have been given the opportunity to work on the Committee for another year,
and does everything she can to make you all feel as welcome as she has been made to feel
at the Cathsoc.

International Officer
Sofia Moita Dias is the Cathsoc’s International Officer. Most of her finds call
her Soph. She is in her final year at the University, reading Theology and
Drama. Sofia is a truly international person. She was born in Paris but brought up in
Portugal and moved over to England at the age of 11. She is also half Irish.
Sofia loves travelling, languages and socialising with people. She is also on the
University’s Cheerleading Committee. Don’t hesitate to contact her — she is friendly
and keen on helping you and making you feel at home.

Cultural Officer
This year, our Cultural Officer is Anna-Marie Bradley. Anna-Marie is in the final
year of her Drama degree. Last year, she was one of our Presidents. She hopes that her
second year on the Cathsoc Committee will be as vibrant as the previous one!
Anna-Marie is a keen musician and plays the saxophone and sings in the
choir. She is also a committed sports player and is very
involved in the University’s Ladies Hockey Team. Outside of university, she is a member of
the Lay Community of St Benedict and the Brentwood Youth Service.
Anna-Marie’s e-mail: morningbradley@hotmail.com
SVP President
The President of our SVP Group is Emily Kennedy. Emily is
excited about her new role, as she enjoys voluntary work. In addition to SVP she is also
involved in the Student Ambassador Scheme at the university. In previous years, she helped
in a Ratheane Nursing Home and in a Barnardos Charity Shop.
Emily is studying History in her second year. She is a music trivia machine and in her
spare time enjoys stalking local troubadour Luke Smith and his band.
