International Masses

During
Term
Each year, we share the Internationalism of the Catholic Church — and the Cathsoc at the University of Kent in particular — by celebrating our International Masses. On these Sundays, different ‘flavours’ transform our celebrations. The Mass, its songs, prayers and readings are all in a particular language; whilst our Pot-luck Lunch continues the same theme with a gourmet meal — with the best dish of that country/region prepared for us!

If you would like to help organising an International Mass, please contact Fr Peter as soon as possible. In previous years, we celebrated African, French, German, Hispanic, Italian and Polish Masses and many more, and we hope to repeat their success in the years to come. Moreover, we encourage groups from all countries/regions/languages to join in and to show their commitment as well!

Ascension Day [Holy Day of Obligation]

Sunday
12 May
By decision of the Bishops of England and Wales, Ascension Day is now celebrated on the Sunday following the actual date (which would have been Thursday 9th May). Therefore, we will celebrate this Holy Day during our usual Sunday Mass at 11:30am at the Franciscan International Study Centre followed by our Pot-luck Lunch at St John Stone House.

Chill Out in Front of the Video...

Tuesday
14 May
The three students who went to Lourdes this Easter will recount their experience and we will show the historic Hollywood classic based on the popular book by Franz Werfel: “The Song of Bernadette”.

This powerful and award-winning film is a perfect way to relax after a hard day in exams or the library!

Char-à-banc to Cambridge

Saturday
18 May
For only £15 — Forget (?) about that revision and those examinations — enjoy a “Panic & Stress Free Day” as guests of Cambridge University Catholic Society!

Visit the colleges... Stroll along the banks of (or punt on!) the Cam... Or just get away from it all...

Pentecost Sunday

Sunday
19 May
As usual on Sundays, our Mass is at 11:30 at the Franciscan Centre, followed by our Pot-luck Lunch at St John Stone House.

Photo Montage Evening

Tuesday
21 May
Win prizes! Bring along your photographs of Cathsoc events during the past year:

Bodiam & Rye, Bruges, the Christmas Party, Oxford, ‘Paris in the Springtime’ et al.

for selection in the permanent photo display at St John Stone House!

Another Chance to Relax...

Tuesday
28 May
For a couple of hours, forget those exams and revision and relax in front of our ‘surround sound’ screen watching “Waking Ned” — A whole village needs to be persuaded that it has won the lottery: Very Irish; and Very Funny! (Or if people prefer, another video of their choice.)

Corpus Christi [Holy Day of Obligation]

Sunday
02 June
By decision of the Bishops of England and Wales, Corpus Christi is now celebrated on the Sunday following the actual date (which would have been Thursday 30th May). Therefore, we will celebrate this Holy Day during our usual Sunday Mass at 11:30am at the Franciscan International Study Centre followed by our Pot-luck Lunch at St John Stone House.

NOT the Union Ball...

Tuesday
04 June
Enjoy the music of world famous bands (on CD). Feast on Internationally renowned cuisine (from the local take-away). Dance till dawn and romantically watch the sun rise (over the garden fence).

All this... and more... “From Eight till (very!) late...” Not at £37.50 a ticket... Not at even 37p a ticket... BUT free!

Our Last Mass of Term

Sunday
09 June
(Sadly) at 11:30 our last Mass of term followed by our famous Going-down Barbecue — our final Pot-luck Lunch with all the special atmosphere of St John Stone House and the end of a wonderful academic year!

Vive Valeque Cathsoc...

Tuesday
11 June
Our last Cathsoc meeting of this academic year. We plan to have a short walk together, about 20 minutes, across the fields to Harbledown. We will see Canterbury just as Chaucer’s pilgrims first saw it.

Visit the Leper Hospital and the Black Prince Well. On return to St John Stone House, there will be food & drink. A chance to say ‘au revoir’ or ‘farewell’ and reminisce over the year gone by...
