Our first Mass of term at 11:30am at the Franciscan International Study Centre followed by our Pot-luck Lunch, also at the Franciscan Centre.

New Term... New Programme...

Tuesday
09 May
Meet up with old (and new) friends as we enjoy a Free Wine & Cheese Evening at the Franciscan International Study Centre around our temporary ‘mini’ Barque Inn.

International Masses

During
Term
Each year, we share the Internationalism of the Catholic Church — and the Cathsoc at the University of Kent in particular — by celebrating our International Masses. On these Sundays, different ‘flavours’ transform our celebrations. The Mass, its songs, prayers and readings are all in a particular language; whilst our Pot-luck Lunch continues the same theme with a gourmet meal — with the best dish of that country/region prepared for us!

If you would like to help organising an International Mass, please contact Fr Peter as soon as possible. In previous years, we celebrated African, French, German, Hispanic, Italian and Polish Masses and many more, and we hope to repeat their success in the years to come. Moreover, we encourage groups from all countries/regions/languages to join in and to show their commitment as well!

Photo Montage Evening

Tuesday
16 May
Win prizes! Bring along your photographs of Cathsoc events during the past year:

Bodiam & Rye, Bruges, the Christmas Party, Oxford, ‘Paris in the Springtime’ et al.

for selection in the permanent photo display at the rebuilt St John Stone House!

20 Things to Have Seen Before You Leave Canterbury

Tuesday
23 May
For a couple of hours, forget those exams and revision and relax at the Franciscan International Study Centre as we see a presentation of sites you should have seen during your time here before you leave Canterbury.

You will be surprised by what you may have missed!

Ascension Day [Holy Day of Obligation]

Sunday
28 May
By decision of the Bishops of England and Wales, Ascension Day is now celebrated on the Sunday following the actual date (which would have been Thursday 25th May). Therefore, we will celebrate this Holy Day during our usual Sunday Mass at 11:30am at the Franciscan International Study Centre followed by our Pot-luck Lunch, also at the Franciscan Centre.

For Greater Glory

Tuesday
30 May
An opportunity to recover around our temporary ‘mini’ Barque Inn as we watch this dramatic film of Catholics facing the tyrannical Mexican Government in the struggle known as the Cristero War. This is the true heroic story of one of the most epic battles of the 20th century.

Char-à-banc to Cambridge

Saturday
03 June
For only £15 — Forget (?) about that revision and those examinations — enjoy a “Panic & Stress Free Day” as guests of Cambridge University Catholic Society!

Visit the colleges... Stroll along the banks of (or punt on!) the Cam... Or just get away from it all...

Pentecost Sunday

Sunday
04 June
As usual on Sundays, our Mass is at 11:30 at the Franciscan Centre, followed by our Pot-luck Lunch, also at the Franciscan Centre.

NOT the Union Ball...

Tuesday
06 June
Enjoy the music of world famous bands (on CD). Feast on Internationally renowned cuisine (from the local take-away). Dance till dawn and romantically watch the sun rise (over the garden fence).

All this... and more... “From Eight till (very!) late...” Not at £40 a ticket... Not at even 40p a ticket... BUT free!

Our Last Mass of Term

Sunday
11 June
(Sadly) at 11:30 our last Mass of term followed by our famous Going-down Barbecue — our final Pot-luck Lunch with all the special atmosphere of the Cathsoc and the end of a wonderful academic year!

Vive Valeque Cathsoc...

Tuesday
13 June
Our last Cathsoc meeting of this academic year. We plan to have a short walk together, about 20 minutes, across the fields to Harbledown. We will see Canterbury just as Chaucer’s pilgrims first saw it.

Visit the Leper Hospital and the Black Prince Well. On return to the Franciscan International Study Centre, there will be food & drink. A chance to say ‘au revoir’ or ‘farewell’ and reminisce over the year gone by...
