First Mass of Term
New Term... New Programme...
Each year, we share the Internationalism of the Catholic Church — and the
Cathsoc at the University of Kent in particular — by celebrating our
International Masses. On these Sundays, different ‘flavours’ transform our
celebrations. The Mass, its songs, prayers and readings are all in a particular
language; whilst our Pot-luck Lunch continues the same theme with a
gourmet meal — with the best dish of that country/region prepared for us!|
If you would like to help organising an International Mass, please contact
Fr Peter as soon as possible. In previous years, we celebrated
African, French, German, Hispanic, Italian and Polish Masses and many more,
and we hope to repeat their success in the years to come. Moreover, we encourage
groups from all countries/regions/languages to join in and to show their commitment

20 Things to Have Seen Before You Leave Canterbury
For a couple of hours, forget those exams and revision and relax at the
Franciscan International Study Centre as we see a presentation
of sites you should have seen during your time here before you leave Canterbury.|
You will be surprised by what you may have missed!
Ascension Day [Holy Day of Obligation]
By decision of the Bishops of England and Wales, Ascension Day is now celebrated on the
Sunday following the actual date (which would have been Thursday 25th May). Therefore,
we will celebrate this Holy Day during our usual Sunday Mass at 11:30am at the
Franciscan International Study Centre followed by our
Pot-luck Lunch, also at the Franciscan Centre.
For Greater Glory
An opportunity to recover around our temporary ‘mini’ Barque Inn as we watch
this dramatic film of Catholics facing the tyrannical Mexican Government in the struggle
known as the Cristero War. This is the true heroic story of one of the most epic
battles of the 20th century.
Char-à-banc to Cambridge
For only £15 — Forget (?) about that revision and those examinations — enjoy a
“Panic & Stress Free Day” as guests of Cambridge University Catholic Society!|
Visit the colleges... Stroll along the banks of (or punt on!) the Cam... Or just get away
from it all...
As usual on Sundays, our Mass is at 11:30 at the Franciscan
Centre, followed by our Pot-luck Lunch, also at the Franciscan Centre.
NOT the Union Ball...
Enjoy the music of world famous bands (on CD). Feast on Internationally
renowned cuisine (from the local take-away). Dance till dawn and romantically
watch the sun rise (over the garden fence).|
All this... and more... “From Eight till (very!) late...” Not at £40 a
ticket... Not at even 40p a ticket... BUT free!
Our Last Mass of Term
(Sadly) at 11:30 our last Mass of term followed by our famous Going-down
Barbecue — our final Pot-luck Lunch with all the special atmosphere of
the Cathsoc and the end of a wonderful academic year!
Vive Valeque Cathsoc...
Our last Cathsoc meeting of this academic year. We plan to have a short walk
together, about 20 minutes, across the fields to Harbledown. We will see Canterbury
just as Chaucer’s pilgrims first saw it.|
Visit the Leper Hospital and the Black Prince Well. On return to the
Franciscan International Study Centre, there will be
food & drink. A chance to say ‘au revoir’ or ‘farewell’ and reminisce
over the year gone by...
